The resident geese

We have a local flock of Cacklers that have chosen to stay close by. Each time I walk out to the air strip, there they are. I've seen planes land barely missing them as they get spooked and take off. Will be quite a mess for all involved if a plane catches them in its prop....

They stay close in as it's hunting season and no one can shoot their guns this close to the village.

It looked like there were three adult and all the rest were youngsters. They hung around another two weeks, then eight were left. Now, all have moved on.

 Storm approaching.....

First boat ride of the fall

Well, first came the bailing. Then came the pumping of the gas line. We had quite a following on the way to where the boat was tied up.

AtmauNepenthe had been passed on to Eli last spring, and he hadn't gotten much of a chance this fall to get it out.

 One giant playground!

After several pulls, we were off. We headed upriver towards Nunapitchuk.

We went upriver for about a half hour, then turned around when we got to the big lake. On our way we must have passed at least six beaver. We could see them quietly swimming along shore, then with a splash, dive. It was cold, but a beautiful evening to be out.

It's Carnival time!

A Fiddle Festival Weekend was scheduled in early August, but had to be rescheduled due to a death in a nearby village.

Mid August, the band arrived, with a country western beat where people could easily dance the popular two step.

During the day booths were set up, games were played, food was served, and prizes awarded.

These first shots were the Bubblegum Blowing contest starting with the youngers to the olders. I tried in the olders, but came in fourth......First through third were awarded prize money!

These were the booths that had been constructed the night before. Eventually the whole area was filled with people. There was a raffle for a boat motor and boat. All money raised went to Search and Rescue.

All kinds of games were played.  The winners were given cardboard with 1, 2 or 3 on them and they took them to the prize booth for cash awards. All other participants were given choices in a prize box, so all came away with something.

Thank goodness for barbecues! Yum!

People could even get cotton candy and snow cones!

End of the day, a throwing party!
